Re-housing the Kimberley Land Council

Royalties for Regions provided nearly $4 million for new premises for the Kimberley Land Council (KLC) in Broome.

The money was used to design and build an office facility with fit outs including IT and communications, furniture and fittings, landscaping, parking and security.

The new office facility is expected to contribute to KLC’s financial sustainability by reducing costs and enabling it to raise additional revenue.

Improving health/well being of Aboriginal communities

The Royalties for Regions program provided more than $1.6 million to fund expansion of the EON Thriving Communities program in the Kimberley.

EON is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to improve the health and well being of remote Aboriginal communities.

The funding enabled EON to double the number of remote communities it helps, from six to 12.

Providing books for Kimberley kids

Royalties for Regions provided $320,000 to fund the Books in Homes program in schools throughout the Kimberley.

With the help of the funding, the project was extended to include the 4,800 students in all 42 pre-school, primary and intermediate schools in the Kimberley region.

Derby’s new visitors’ centre

Royalties for Regions provided $200,000 to the Shire of Derby/West Kimberley to help build the new Derby Visitors’ Centre.

The new centre is now located with the Shire’s administrative offices and provides tourist information, coach and accommodation bookings, and sells souvenirs and tourism-related merchandise.
